One Project
The Oakland Army Base (OAB) was decommissioned in 1999, resulting in the loss of more than 7,000 jobs in the region and the dismantling of a national maritime and military asset. Located at the base of the Bay Bridge on the North, the neighborhood of West Oakland on the east, Port of Oakland Outer Harbor to the west, and existing UP and BNSF rail yards to the south, this 330-acre former base is at a nexus of maritime, rail and highway transportation. After a decade of strategic planning for the redevelopment of the base and the surrounding lands, Oakland Global---a bold vision to revitalize the Oakland waterfront---is ready to commence.
One Vision
Oakland Global Trade and Industry Center (Oakland Global) is a project of national significance that seeks to transform the former Oakland Army Base into a world class intermodal trade & logistics center. It is the only international container trade gateway for the Northern California MegaRegion and it is the 3rd highest volume international trade gateway on the U.S. West Coast and leading U.S. export gateway. The key components of the project are:
For more information on the project components, please refer Oakland Global Trade and Industry Center Project preliminary plan which can be found on the Resources page.
One Team
Oakland Global is a united effort of the Port of Oakland and City of Oakland who have each partnered with ProLogis/CCIG Oakland Global, LLC (formerly AMB/CCG). Recognizing that this project is a complex and long term development, the team continues to work collaboratively towards a common goal of turning the Oakland Global vision into reality.

What is a MegaRegion?
MegaRegions are defined by interlocking economic systems, shared natural resources and ecosystems, and common transportation systems that link population centers together. The Northern California MegaRegion spans from Bakersfield in the south to the Oregon border in the north, and from Reno in the east to the Bay Area in the west.
Oakland's Role in the MegaRegion
The Port of Oakland sits at the western terminus of Union Pacific Railroad’s (UP) transcontinental “Central Corridor” rail route, and connects to the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway’s (BNSF) southern transcontinental route at Richmond, California. These two routes provide efficient rail transportation to the Midwest, linking the rest of the country with key transpacific trade routes throughout Asia and the globe.
Oakland Global will strengthen the Port’s rail connections, expand and streamline cargo handling capacity and utilize new technologies to improve cargo operations at Oakland’s seaport. In addition, the project will attract and accommodate trade and logistics enterprises. The resulting development will include state-of-the-art marine and intermodal facilities, supported by infrastructure enhancements and a coherent, integrated design that improves the interface between Port activities and the surrounding MegaRegion.
